Heating an entire household, or even a single room, can cost a lot of money and use energy that is not environmentally friendly. Just heating an electric stove alone can cost over thirty dollars per month. One might believe that plugging in a space heater rather than using household heating uses less energy, but in reality the cost of the electricity used and energy wasted is all the same. An electric bill can be very high some months compared to others, and it is stressful to monitor how often one should use the heat. This is a problem people experience with every cold season. Luckily, Egloo, the candle-powered heater is a great solution to reduce electricity waste, while providing an ecologically friendly alternative to the central heating of a room.

Egloo’s designer, Marco Zagaria, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and created Egloo as a simple and efficient tool for heat. The Egloo is made of four parts: a base, grill and two domes, all of which make the small two pound device that can warm up to 30 square meters. Three of the Egloo candles are used at a time and the heat can last for over five hours even after the candles have gone out. The Egloo is produced in Italy, made of terracotta which is a material that stores heat and releases through thermal radiation. The build of this little heater was inspired by Zagaria’s passion for improvement and design quality. Using no plug and only the heat from candles, the Egloo can warm someone’s bedroom, office or even a college dorm. The monthly cost of candle refills is only three dollars, or 10 cents per day, which is an incredible price difference in comparison to the 30 dollars per month of just using an electric stove. This eco-friendly design also comes in many colors that can suit the atmosphere of the room, and it provides the heat necessary in place of using an electric heater. Using just one of these can save money, save energy, and help people stay warm without having to worry about the monthly bill.

Marco Zagaria’s Egloo has been supported by websites such as Eco Watch, Mother Nature Network, and Coolest Gadgets. All the Egloo orders for the campaign have been processed and the Egloo team is preparing for the next winter season. Motivated to create new devices that make a positive impact, Zagaria has already begun working on new projects he hopes to perfect. Egloo has captured the attention of many and its success has shown Zagaria how to strategize when it comes to the popularity of his environmentally friendly product. “My advice for future creators is to always believe in yourself, do not delegate more work and own responsibility” Zagaria says, “The path that is the basis of creating a product is the journey that makes you grow, and gives you skills you’ve never had before.” The designer’s goal-oriented attitude is inspiring for designers working to create more environmentally friendly products. For only 10 cents per day, Egloo heaters are one solution for people to save money and live sustainably. Will you purchase an Egloo to heat your home?
