Coming to a Scratch Project Near You
10 trailer projects in Scratch that will leave you wanting more
By the Scratch Community Team
This post is part of a blog series about what young people are sharing in the Scratch online community.
Sometimes when Scratchers embark on big, exciting projects, they’ll want to give the community a sneak peek of what they’re working on. And what better way to do that than by sharing a preview project in the the style of a movie trailer? Unlike movie trailers you see in theaters, Scratch trailers can often also serve as calls for collaborators, asking for help from other Scratchers to voice act or create art. But just like Hollywood movie trailers, they’re bound to get you excited to see the finished thing!
Enjoy the 10 epic, silly, and intriguing trailers below:
1. Combining art, programming, animation, and voice acting into a beautiful RPG (role-playing game) project, bubble103 presents The Colour Divide — Trailer, which offers a glimpse at life in the vibrant and colorful land of Aurora.
2. Inspired by bubble103’s projects, ChristianKid5 created their own series, modeling a similar illustration style and animation techniques. {Trailer} Sᴜɳ Ʀɪsɪɳɢ introduces viewers to Eden, her sister Selah, and their friends, as they embark on the adventure of a lifetime!
3. Sometimes, Scratchers create trailers for their own games, like this one, by cutupuss. In Nano’s Story, players can simulate life for their Nano character: “Choose what Job and skills they have, choose their friends, choose their fate.”
4. Young people also make trailers for their interests outside of Scratch. Novakitty created a teaser for a book that they were writing on Wattpad. Pocket Dragons is a sizable tale told from the perspective of miniature dragons.
5. There are actual movie trailers on Scratch, too! Full of action and intensity, this trailer feels like a blockbuster. When darkness falls on Scratch City, the Defender of Scratch will be there.
6. Inspired by the Warrior Cats series, what originally started as collection of games and then a heart-wrenching trailer is now a full-length 25-minute movie.
7. Trailer projects have become so well-loved in the Scratch online community that they have become their own genre or type of project. RpgANIMATIONS infuses humor and suspense in Attack Of The Zuchinni nabbers (Fake Trailer). No spoilers!
8. In a far away pond, evil stirs… Trailers 1 and 2 for The Misadventures of Derpy the Frog will have you rooting for a somewhat mismatched, merry band of friends.
9. In the style of other well-known technology companies, Scratchers are creating previews for their own operating systems. With BubbleOS, your dreams can be beautifully fluid.
10. Of course, no list of trailer projects would be complete without one featuring our very own Scratch Cat. When Darkness seeks to crush creativity and imagination, the world needs a hero — but will our hero succeed?
