  • Writing Prompts
  • Best Of Lists a.k.a. Listicles (e.g. best kids books of all time, best writing advice ever given, best blogs to follow, best writing software, etc.)
  • Event Summaries
  • Feature Stories: hot topics in the writing industry (examples include: the rise of self-publishing, the we need diverse books movement, emerging indies, mergers amid the big publishing houses)
  • Book Reviews: picture books through young adult, and writers resources (request review guide by email)
  • Author, Illustrator, Agent Interviews

We also seek:

  • Comic Strips

If interested, please have a Medium account, and include a link to that account. If you are selected to be a contributor, we will add you as a writer and send instructions on how to post to our newspaper, Scribblers’ Scoop.

Please include a brief bio, links to published material (if applicable), a little bit about your interest in children’s literature. Note: We will still consider contributors who do not write for children, but are interested in the publishing industry.

Pitch a topic before you write the full article. Include a one to two sentence pitch about what you’d like to write, and a sample first paragraph.

Ultimately, once accepted, we’re looking for 300–1000 words written in a conversational, approachable tone, with accompanying photos or illustrations. We can direct you to high quality royalty-free images.

Ready to give it a go?

Email our Publications Director, Alana Garrigues, at alanagarrigues(at)gmail(dot)com to get started!

Note: We reserve the right to edit all pieces for content, style and clarity prior to publication. Ideal candidates are solid writers with a strong connection to CBW–LA and/or emerging writers full of ideas and open to guidance. No minimum or maximum number of posts … write as often as once a week or as infrequently as once a year. We will accept previously published material, if you have the right to share it with us. (Blog posts are a great example.)

We are a non-profit, and as such, this is a non-paying gig. (So sorry! Find us the goose that lays the golden eggs and we’ll change that policy as quickly as we can!)

We do promise to promote you and thank you! And we’ll find a way to reward our most frequent local contributors with a little something special.
