Kintsugi

Kintsugi (金継ぎ) (Japanese: golden joinery) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, embraces flaws and imperfectness instead of disguising it.

you were
porcelain
with a heart of gold,
you were
broken inside
the cracks couldn’t hold,
you were
reaching out
for the light so bold,
but the vignette
only grew stronger.

it’s 3am
you sit by the window
lost in sonder,
let me tell you
what you don’t realize
take time to ponder.
you’re a work of art
a brilliant kintsugi,
this universe grows fonder
of the parts of your core
you lost to fix yourself.

it’s 7am now
the morning rays
warm your sun-kissed crevices,
as they glow golden
you realize how
your precious niches,
polished gold and porcelain
shine brighter
than the everyday clichés
you thought you had become.
Rise my darling, let the universe speak to you.
