Pakistani short film documentary, Home 1947 bagged the prestigious best film (short documentary category) documentary awards at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal 2020.

The short film is produced by the two time Academy Award winner, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and sheds light over the life and displacement of the people during 1947 partition of the sub-continent. It documents one of the key historic events through the lived experiences of people who went through it in person.

Home 1947 is a series of seven short films conceptualised and produced by Chinoy’s film company, SOC Films. The series aims to recreate the long lost memory of sights and sounds of home of the millions before the partition. The focus of the storytelling is not through the lens of historians or politicians but the common people who lived through the experience. Home 1947 has been co-commissioned by the British Council in Pakistan in collaboration with the Manchester International Festival and Super Slow Way. The first film of the series is titled, Beila.

Sharing via her Instagram, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy posted the exciting news. “HOME1947 is a deeply personal exploration of the lives and stories of the millions that were displaced in 1947 during the creation of two new independent states, India and Pakistan.”

The titles of the rest of the short films in the series are; Midnight Fury, Ghosts of the Past, Zameen, Khamosh Yaadein (Silent Memories), Weaving Memories and Dark Secrets.
