A Tree on a Cliff

My child,
have the courage of a tree on a cliff
Ignore the uncertainty of your seed finding purchase,
wrap your roots around granite
Grow tall to spite erosion and gravity

Never bow to the buffeting winds,
stand proud against inevitable lightning
My child,
be as brave as a tree on a cliff
