A Mother’s Love Letter to Her Unborn Child
Everyone tells me that you need me for food, for shelter, and to survive this big, complex world but what no one told me is that I will need you even more than you’ll ever need me.
They say a child’s love is so precious — it’s ineffable — I never understood the depth of it till I experienced it myself, even though you’ve not even arrived yet.
It’s funny how love as we grow, is often quantified with verbal cues but a baby can find thousand other ways to express their love without saying a word.
When you’ll place your tiny hands on my face and smile, I’ll know. When the rhythm of my heartbeat will be your lullaby, I’ll know. When the only place you’ll find the most warmth will be in my cold hands, I’ll know. When you’ll love me so flawlessly with all my flaws, I’ll know. When I’ll try to look at myself through your eyes, oh I will most certainly know. Your love language, it’ll be so simple yet so much more than words could ever convey.
I never knew I could miss someone I have never met. There is a strange ache — a strong longing that grows by each day — to see you, hold you, nurture you.
I might be the one carrying your heart for now but it is you who is going to carry mine forever. I guess I’ll have to get used to having…
