Beloved Books
A poem on parting with books
books, my lasting companion
books, my comforting constant
books, thin fat or huge
are equally hard to lose
once you read
leaves a bond unexpressed
dare you have to explain anyway
sharing the bounty and asking for none
they warm the shelves in my home
along with my heart & soul!
A dreaded feeling when I have to let go
the weight, the space, the trouble,
in a relocation it causes,
Oh, dear! I hear my book call out
“Please be kind to me, give me away to
a reader who is kind, and gentle
think of me as a puppy you will give away
for I will warm their souls & hearts
just like I did yours! ”
