More bad news with each passing day

Is it just me, or has there been an inordinate amount of bad news recently?
I see that the world is still round but I feel flattened.
It’s hard not to take bad news personally.
I read about doom loop theory and our hippocampi shrinking.
Sometimes I think I’d be better off benched for a while. Out of the game.
I’m ready for a respite. Some downtime on an island.

We’ve lived under the threat of nuclear Armageddon since the1950s.
At that time children were taught to duck under their school desks.
As if that would do any good.
The thermonuclear threat is worse than ever today.
But no one thinks about it much.
Because there’s so much else to worry about.

I’m worrying full time now and I still can’t keep up.
People tell me, “It doesn’t do any good to worry about it.”
Maybe so, but it doesn’t do any good not to worry about it.
I think that’s how we got to this point.
Not enough worriers conscientiously tending the affairs of humankind.
Or maybe it’s all just a matter of perspective.

Stories and poems that matter. Emotion first and foremost.
