Distance

A poem about longing.

Memories swirl around me,
Threads of silver,
Visible at dusk,
Hang like stars,
Under blue night skies.

Alone in fields of old,
Where you left me,
Earth parched,
Longing for life,
Amidst a sea of wilted flowers.

Dust a somber replacement,
For what was once forever,
Brokenness,
Shattered pieces of earth,
Tethered to silver strings.

Link us together,
No expanse too vast,
Listening across the airless expanse,
Still,
Still I can hear you breathing.
