Do you hear them
Voices of the forest
Whispers in the water
Washing over rocks
In the wooded ravine
Voices of a people gone
And they say,
“We were first here
And now we are gone
As you will be one day, too.”

And no sooner do they finish
When overhead you hear
A breeze blowing
The golden leaves
Murmurings in the trees
Voices of a people gone
And they say,
“We were second here
And now we are gone
As you will be one day, too.”

And you tip your head
Bend a knee
Touch the ground
And breath in deep
Because you know
It’s true
You’ll go away
But when you do
You hope to become
A voice of the forest, too
