Grace Notes

Transposing old memories to new

Photo by Sixteen Miles Out on Unsplash

The piano played memories
one chord, then two
while the trees felt gray
and the clouds sang
sky’s blues.

Each note wore a cloak
like the trees wear leaves
and the rain puddled down
accenting the hard breaks,
tears turned to muddy hues.
