I’ll Never Win

A poem.

seeking your approval
but finding
empty doors
and white walls
rooted in refusal
instead

the sound of never
vibrates
ringing
delicate rejection
haunted silence
at my feet

it’s a fight
I’ll never win
still
I try
to pique your interest
but indifference
seeps from your pores

I’m drowning in it
yet
I want you
to want to
pull me to your shore

perhaps
in another world
in a different version
of our story
here’s hoping
for a different ending
than the one I’m sure to find.
