Memories

Certain voices no longer haunt me

My day started with a phone call
its spell evoked memories
so, I poured my heart into a blue cup
and sipped and sipped
’til the clock’s ticking said,
‘let’s go for a walk.’
And so, I did. Up a snowy path
I was greeted by the trees.
I nodded to my evergreen friends,
and walked next to the footprints of critters
who must have tippy toed before me.
Up and over the horizon, I continued
with the sun dancing along this snowy scene,
and my footsteps were softened by the golden silence
letting my thoughts dip back to the phone call
with my favorite sweater wrapped around me
knowing the sound of certain voices
no longer haunt me.
