It was alone in the beginning
now knitting and spreading its web
It is known as poverty
that makes people fall into its trap
Many have seen it before
but from the distance
Those who lived nearby
already felt its presence
No matter how hard you fight
it is always one step ahead
It is known as poverty
that makes people fall into its trap
It plays with your mind
Does not kill you right away
might turn you into a killer instead
Disease and hunger are its companions
It tries to pull you back
when you try to earn bread
Do not let it win
Only humanity can fill
that one big gap
It is known as poverty
