Put a Flower in the Window

Watch it reach for the light

Put a flower in the window and watch it reach for the light.
So we, despite our self-inflicted loneliness
turn to what is bright, drawn not by photosynthesis
nor even by the pull of beauty which can be ambiguous
but by the ageless need to be chosen and embraced
in the glow of sunlight, moonlight, spotlight, lovelight,
wishing to be warmed , slightly singed but never burned,
and how ageless we feel when we close our eyes
and let the light lick our skin or the tides lap our feet
when we choose to step close enough and do not run away.
