Shackled

A Poem

We stole the night away,
below the forever luminous skyline,
reaching for the extinguished stars.

It was there a promise was made,
and where the entrapment began.

Shackled at the wrists,
I was stuck in his perpetual symphony —
Continually crushed by the harness around my neck,
entangled in the voices; melodic and addictive.

The orders were simple in the cruelest form,
as I took them each with a heavy blow.

But each request was met with the one thing I needed,
so I continued in his game,
I became drunk on his wealth,
while he grew in power from my obedience.
