The ‘Invisible’ Truth

A Poem

Something so obvious
it slaps you in the face
(when everyone is watching),
you walk right past it all the time,
it hits you right between
your frontal lobes,
the perfect joke that
tickles that hole inside you,
song lyrics that explain exactly how you feel,
the poem that connects the dots,
re-frames the factless reality — undeniable
and nobody knows how to say it,
sing it, write it, paint it, play it —
until you do.

It’s the pinnacle we all desire.
The ‘invisible’ truth — you don’t find it,
it finds you.

Like when Bill Callahan sings:

“I can tell you about the river | Or we can just get in.”

Catching fireflies late at night,
in a Mason Jar
as we drink near a raging fire,
watching them switch on and off,
feeding our fascination up close
until they die,
suffocating from lack of oxygen.
