The Willows Are Ready

The willows are ready though spring is weeks away.
Their slender branches scrape the ground,
seeking transformation.

Though early March is frigid and evening comes too soon,
the willows feel the vernal pulse
as pure exhilaration.

Can we mere humans comprehend the wisdom of the willow?
Or hear with our half-deadened ears
Earth’s urgent exhalation?
