“Can you keep a secret?” Annabelle asked Julia after her last patient of the day.

“Wait! Is it good or bad?” Julia asked, immediately on high alert. “And of course I can, especially for you!” she added, realizing she hadn’t answered Annabelle’s question.

“Well… remember that dream you told me about this morning? There might be some truth to it.”

Julia’s hand flew to her mouth, and her eyes widened.

“Annabelle!” she breathed, her eyes glistening. “Are you—”

Annabelle nodded, unable to contain her grin.

“Oh my gosh! That’s incredible! How far along are you?”

“Thirteen weeks,” Annabelle whispered. “But you can’t tell anyone. I don’t want people here to know yet. It’s still early, and the baby’s due a month before my contract’s over.”

“Well, no one will give you a hard time about that,” Julia replied. “And if they do, they’ll have to deal with me!”

Annabelle laughed and gave Julia a hug. Though Julia had a flair for the dramatic, she was also fiercely protective of the people she loved, and Annabelle loved her firecracker energy.

“Lovebug?” Annabelle called as soon as she got home.
