Worldly Wonders And You

Like a man picking oysters
To find pearls
I tried to seek meaning

From meeting strangers in the dark
Only to find my tongue
Trapped at the back of my throat

Bile rising
Panic roaring
Fear punched holes through my skin

When the threads came loose
Truths unraveled at my breaking point

What is the point of seeking?

When all natural things perish?

Riches take wings
Love flutters and cheats
Fame disappears like a breath
Youth, health and pleasure all vanish

In the long haul,
The investment
Lies within the heart of you

What is never lost
Beyond the stormy seas
Is the very essence of you

Carved out like the magical Great Canyon
Formed by the relentless currents of the Colorado River
Even the world has scars’

I halted my relentless conquests
And heeded no requests
I embraced my wounds and past
And I build myself from the cracks within me
just like the unspoken wonders of Rome
