Hollow Pride
You refused to understand me
And I refused to understand you
We were both too proud
To respect each other’s point of view
We both needed to be right
It scars our hearts to be wrong
So we opted to fight the good fight
But our souls ached to get along
The quarrel began as a minor tiff
I waited and waited for you to apologize
As time passed it was easier to drift
My pride caused me to rationalize
Alas my dear departed friend
I fear the time is now too late
Kneeling at your headstone
Pride crumbles before the mighty hand of fate
