Argument of Perigee
2nd Saturday Prompt: something you miss, but don’t want back
I keep coming back to you,
circling in incessantly decaying orbits,
encroaching upon union,
curve of distance between us
nearing, but somehow
never arriving at zero,
seeking to coil my desires
around your purpose,
dovetailing onto destiny,
knowing I can scarcely manipulate
fate of rivers crossed long ago
any more than I can reverse flow
all the way back to
the first time we let go.
I keep coming back to you
in tighter rivulets spun about fingers
pointing out the pointlessness
of correcting for incessant falling,
even as friction
pulls fantasy closer to nonfiction,
only to miss yet again,
spinning away as momentum is slowed
until you are but the brightest star
upon which my evening sky
