The stage has become a scroll
Of scattered verse — lost words
Parceled out
Distributed
Line by dismembered line

It seems
Somehow, we
Swallowed the stage
Perhaps attempting
A new form of exchange

Why not try echolocation!

See how far away these words go
Before making their way back
— or is it, fade?
Ahh but the water’s all muck
Maybe Elon Musk will rescue us now!
Who knows what we might find out there
Beyond all this
A me I may prefer, orbiting the next scene

It never is good enough
What’s right in front
But

Behind the screen I own the stage
The audience, all me
Like Poe locked beneath the floorboards
While the narrator screams
Louder please!

I think I hear people…yes, I think there’s people out there…there might be people out there…

Fuck the touch
Let’s just keep going on like this till dusk
When the screen lights up

Thanks J.D. Harms for the prompt; I‘ve been waiting for just this one.

And if this theme speaks to you then you may also appreciate this photo narrative based on: my rejection of the selfie.
