California Nights

In love’s arms

Where Jack and Allen
and Michel once walked
I land in love’s arms.

There are times you
leave, you go to faraway places
to escape
or find yourself

sometimes you get
on a plane
to do both at the same time

Because there are
no palm trees
not much sand, no sea
where you call home

and you hope
the same moon is coming with you

But sometimes
she doesn’t show up
even when the California
night is so perfect
you can’t believe

you’re only sharing it with
the stars

But Love’s arms
find you anyway and take
you inside
for coffee and Indian food

Maybe the flight
made you
tired
