Candy

Life mysteries

The first crimson of passion
and the first gold of joy
felt

The first silver of betrayal
and ombre of despair
that sink

in depths previously unknown

all of it— like wrappings
on gooey taffy of my being

I save the covers of each color as treasure
and bin the sweetness of the song my soul sings

I remember every detail of the last storm
and forget the fragrance of the lotus that blooms in the garden within

The bale of feelings that I have cached, bears light, when I tie them
with wrinkly cloth of experience and greying threads of time

I realize—

Silly, how I have boxed all the wrappers
and discarded all the candy sweet.
