Enough

Working for wages

Do you know,
that doctors,
don’t need to be quite so smart
or work quite so hard
if there’s twice as many of them-
As there should be?
Nor nurses,
Nor prison workers,
Nor police, nor lecturers,
Nor firemen or teachers,
So why are so many people
out of the job?

And why are there so many fucking shops?

And what about the Cooks and the Cleaners,
dinner ladies and babysitters;
Who want more work but need to be home
Who need more time, so they’ve no time alone
and they have to go work,
if ever they get some
and so they do work, and then some, and then some
The ones who deserve the day off and a bonus,
A massive mojito and standing ovation
Real people who put the work in,
For their nation.
Nation, but without all the negative connotations
Just the place that they live, where they have all their stuff
where their family hails from, all the people they love

These are the ones who don’t get enough,
and never will it be enough
