Eyes That Held the Sun
A Poem
the sweltering loneliness
of summertime—
the softness of adolescent
sadness—led me to her.
dew speckled cheeks, and
glittering gold—
eyes that held the sun—
a heart that held the sea.
our yearning fingertips kissed
within the spaces of our silence—
the quietness of
wordless understanding—
the sheepish glances of
bemused idolization—or
innocent adoration.
deep within the ocean’s waves
we shared our pain-filled secrets—
she sang away my tears—
i filled in her hollow pieces—
and hand in hand we bloomed.
we kissed beneath old,
gnarled willow trees—
bathed in youth—
blinded by voracity.
eyes that held the sun
burned into the deepest
parts of my chest—
honey-coated, and sweet.
saltwater caresses that never ended—
a lovesick song that never lost its tune.
