I am a cowboy of liminal space
my range
between a moment past
and the moment to come
I have no cows to herd
no horse to even ride upon
I AM that I ride
lassoing my mind
before it becomes lost in the bushes
hides behind hills

my mind can be so thin
it hides in a haiku line
or so vast
it can sit down and snuff out the flames of Dante
or make Milton quite lost

I am a rodeo star
bucking words before any were ever uttered
I howl at every moonrise
and rising before sunrise
I make coffee out
of the leftover rinds of starlight

you’ve seen me before
hiding in your shadow
you’ve heard me
shouting for those dogged thoughts to move along
