It Was All In My Head

But it was an eye-opening journey.

It was all in my head, but

when in one moment I gaped at the heaving hills of lush leaves,
flourishing above the highest of grounds that rambled
beneath my passenger seat—
the next I found myself at the wheel of all those who believed in me,
soaring above the deepest of valleys that froze
beneath the vehicle in flight.

That’s right:

With the lives of mine and others in my hands,
I piloted the bus, in descent—
towards that narrow strip of a street
that could save those lives. And me —

frozen with fear
and they, anything but fazed.

Oh well,
no turning back now.

It was a rough fall —
a crash and a thud
that could kill those
who landed on the lonely street,
sat beside a vacant building.

And they wandered out
toward the only establishment to be seen.
And I just wondered out
through the cracked windscreen.

Then, slowly—
I stepped out onto that street
surrounded by a sky just as blue and trees just as green —
and into that building
where it was as lively as it had never been…

It was all in my head, but
when in one moment
I woke up from my dream,
that view from the front seat, I knew
will always stay with me.
