“Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide” — Imagine Dragons

It is wise to know our demons. They lie dormant — like blurred fragments of grey sky ready to crumble to the ground. They are like sharpened knives, prepared to gut our soul.

Our demons are victims of desire and destruction. They are remnants of the fires that burn unseen — unnoticed by those who pass us by. They pile their ashes discreetly, waiting for another match to be lit. Their words ignite the soul.

They are what you hear crawling in the dark. Gnawing at your doorstep.
After a while, they are the white noise that you absorb until they lull you to sleep.

Your demons do not mean to hurt the ones you love. They just destroy anyone who gets in the path of their footsteps, their spotlight or their moonlight. They tend to play by their own rules, are insatiable and have no empathy— but they are painted in the darkness of the blinded night.

Demons demand our unconditional love and devotion. They will never leave you, but they must be trained to respect your boundaries. They are like dragons. And who among us is brave enough to slay the unsuspecting demon? Leash them and cast a spell to dissolve them before they grow beyond control? Throw water on them and hope they will shatter like glass?

It is not an easy task.
Your demons were built to last.

You must train them to listen closely to what you have to say.
