Manipulated Mirroring: Hybrid Prose Poem

Only to collide

Photo by Inga Gezalian on Unsplash

She chased him — only to collide with what isn’t rising — the mirror-fantasy and its mannequin, a sacred pact of deluded otherness — she was barely witness to her own invisibility —

longing laps out of
the pool
like a tongue
destined for just the one
word
and then held
closed
mortified where it stands
for all time
