Monsters in the Closet

A Poem

Photo by Nick Romanov on Unsplash

Stain me
in the closet
on the linens,
where ghosts dream
and the blinded can see.
Suck me
in the spirit.
You’re forgiven.
I am driven
to make you see tomorrow’s dream.
We are
the monsters
in the closet,
scaring children.
At least they can’t see.
I’m panting,
you’re choking,
moaning. “Mommy?
Are you guys okay?”
“Yes, honey,
we’ll come out in a minute,
we’re just getting rid of the monsters.”
