And finally
I can cry.

Dry heaves of grief
that shudder my frame
without tears.

Their intensity so great
it cuts off breath.

Tears leak
during household tasks.

Another day
Another night
Another sky
and still no Zach. . .

His passing was quiet
Inexorable
Exhausting.

When we zoomed
each breath was labored.
Yet
the words he shared
were filled with love &
vanquishing splendor.

Our link has not shattered —

His spirit echoes
the cadence of our rhythms
in the circling radiance
of Zach’s voice raised in song.

Hymnody and sonnets
so piercing
I gasped
at their penetrating truth.
