Publicly Open Your Mouth
Political Prose Poem
Who are we now? What are we now? Is your bunker built and are we yet sufficiently terrorized — or is your backyard unscathed by the delirium of old egos?
I respawn as a tiny act that could ignite — dear representative — that flame others lit — since you are immune to the repercussions of your arson, I ask that you speak boldly and loudly and unapologetically
I beg that you put yourself last for once, dear leader — we elect you to denounce salutes to regimes of hate — I demand that you publicly open your mouth, your wallet, your deepest regrets against neo-emboldened-terror
I ask that you don’t silence your original face — the one who knows — and your mothers and fathers that brought you here — speak louder — type in ALL CAPS — that you stand for us, dear senator
the teachers and tutors you hire for your offspring, concerned citizens of your kingdom, we need your voice and voices like yours to act unafraid — at this moment — now before ashes become of us all

I encourage you to do a small thing and write your representative. No matter their political party, everyone should stand up to salutes to hate, to bullies, to those who encourage and embolden those who would do our children harm.
