She squints.
A trapezium of sky blue
Wedges her thoughts
Squeezing her somewhere she rarely goes

A bird of prey, wings outstretched
Traverses the emptiness
It’s flight feathers a brilliant gold
In the fading sun

Her sudden sob makes waves around her
For love, for loss
For lethargy and apathy
For pride and pain
For the pursuit of nothingness
Disguised as personal gain

Through wet eyes
She raises her martini to the fading raptor
For she knows
A moment of perfect beauty just passed her by
