The Invitation

you’re invited to a poet’s party
bring all your readers and words
to a place for language gathering
and think of all the noticing
a silver glint within the eye
a feather affair before they fly
formation in the glowing sky —
the beauty of the birds

and when we’re at our poets’ party
you can be deeply you
pass your joy, and pens, and paper
pass the reckless grief you savor
for experience is what we crave
inspiration until the grave
you can be scared or simply brave
for your pretending can be true

what will you bring to our poets’ party
we’ll need some bread and wine and tea
whatever you need for your dedication
to practice all your best creation
the details will be revealed
but be sure you will be healed
