Snared
20 March 2021 Saturday Poetry Prompt: out of the way
Variant surveillance,
Counter-veiling threats.
Excise bugs,
Hedge fund bets.
Skin’s getting thicker,
Like layered tree bark.
Fog’s rolling in,
Turning kind of dark.
Exit wounds,
From a shot, I never wanted to take.
A father’s force of will,
A son’s grave mistake.
Blood on my hands,
Blood on my face.
Compromised means,
Acts of disgrace.
Stigmatize me,
I’ll stigmatize you.
Check-in’s at 3,
For the destitute few.
Mr. Holland’s called in sick,
Something about beveling tissue.
Oedipus fevers, chills and sweats,
Mom’s Hasenpfeffer stew.
Excuse me, expel me,
Can’t take it, I’m done.
Done killing rabbits, done splitting hares,
Recall the Republican Diplomat and take back your gun.
