Staring at the Umbilicus
Poem

Pieces of his frayed nature
Floating drift ice
Listening for whale sounds
Submerged in a suburban pool
Drifting back to the chamber
Where it all began
Thumb in mouth, peanut penis
Staring at the umbilicus
Underwater a sob is just a bubble
Would a mother’s hug
And a tummy rub
Be a gift or more betrayal
Raised a knight errant
The good mother sent him out
Now he has lost his grail of hope
Will he sink or will he float?
