I
Death fills in
all the gaps
sets up its little
piles of misery
along the beach
Trading lies
has stopped
entirely
the romance
hits a note

II
Food becomes
the belly of
another person
blood
just a new wine
a deference
that has been
lost
along with
the heirs
of this madness

III
Survivors
haven’t come this
far before
don’t remember
how to work
with the wood
carving grasses
into the strips
of a
salvation
Or not
