The Rainbow’s Ace
A Sonnet
Observe the rainbow weft, its many hues
arranged into a perfect, lovely shape
even the colors others might excuse,
dismiss, or throw away. Now we escape.
If you are wandering in lonely lands,
or driftless seas of dark, a brilliant light
rewrites the story. So you raise your hands
and stand together! Fight the hopeful fight
of being here, existing in this skin
which others paint with loneliness and shame.
We raise our arms! A rousing song begins.
Accept your colors. Light another flame.
We are what we were made–and nothing less.
We love. We weep. We feel–and all the rest.
