The Tenacity
25 April 2020 Saturday Poetry Prompt: hold

Dream skip halt
then the roundness of the room
the categories of menace
& the surreptitious contain all the virtues
you can reach here
That you hold onto a different picture
only says something
about that picture
Stars taking different perspectives
moving around
now & then & taking the lie
to all the charts you had before you
Still
the novel was/ written
still you drifted into the obsessions
of genitals & mouthwash
Standing alone at the lake
bodies of small fishes I would never eat
ringing me like an ashtray
trying to conceive of anything, any of this
as more than mere chance
But you: you’re holding on
J.D. Harms 2020
