It is too soon to be making promises,
I know that.
But humor me? Let me make one.

I promise to take it one moment at a time.

You see,
the word ‘love’ is still laced with venom and dark rusty chains.
It is still something I’ve been taught to fear.
It provokes change,
and pain,
and danger.

I have been running for so long,
fearful of the cuts from rusted metal.
But during my race to solitude, I forgot,
the word love is not the dangerous intruder I have seen it to be.
It is that of the chains, the chains I allowed to be wrapped around the word.

So as I said, I promise to take this one moment at a time.

I don’t know if you’re ‘the one.’
But you are the one standing in front of me right now.
So I will not plan a future,
I will not plan an escape route.

I promise to take it one moment at a time.

none of this makes sense but maybe it could still be beautiful.
