Under New Ownership

Oh, doesn’t that ever sound — something? Important? Ambitious? Pretentious? Different? The path ahead? It’s coming into focus.

Yes, but it’s true. Scrittura is under new ownership — for whatever that means.

First, and foremost, fireworks of thank you’s to JD for years of insight, foresight, and hard work that made Scrittura the place for provocative prose and poetry, and prose-poetry. And thanks to all the many other editors who have helped along the way. Oh, wait — thanking myself? Well, maybe a bit because this is where I learned — but the others, — by all means and with enthusiasm.

Second, both JD and Melissa will remain on as writers — contributing as they can. Melissa has agreed to serve as a kind of “editor emeritus,” contributing articles on prosody and writing as well as the occasional provocative prompt.

Third, not much else will change with the submission guidelines. Read them. They will be updated as we move forward but not right now. The one thing that won’t change is the admonition — Don’t send your first draft. That’s a good guideline. We are all writers here.

Fourth. the editors from The Howling Owl are helping out. Both Marilyn and Viraji will each take one day a week for editing and publishing. Know that we communicate almost every day. Scrittura will follow a rolling publication schedule.

Fifth, we need some help. Your help. If you have an inkling to be an editor, please let me know. Given the size and scope of Scrittura, we are looking for three editors — a general editor, a prompts editor, and a prose poem editor. This will allow the publication to grow in its areas of strength. You can write to me at — zay.pareltheon@zenyet.org

Lastly, the Scrittura community is important. You are all important. We want to see the community grow and develop and evolve organically along the lines of its founder’s vision. And maybe most importantly, we want to hear from you, our writers and our audience. Send notes, ideas, and suggestions to me at zay.pareltheon@zenyet.org
