You Proposed On Our First Night
A poem
you proposed on our first night
figuring I would can our vegetables
and hold the fort
we’d set up shop in minion’s field
spin medicines in homegrown
home-lathed mortars and pestles
you thought me, at once, the offal-type
pluck string and chord and envisioned me
with suede quiver over my shoulder
we’d homestead and traverse the earth
we’d watch each other growing older
you assumed me the goddess…
