Home away from home

Hello! For this third blog, I was having a bit of trouble thinking of new things to write about mainly because now I am starting to feel like this place is home and everything is just becoming so normal. 4 weeks in, I’m finally getting used to having to think before speaking in Spanish, calling cabs over the phone (which I was actually having nightmares about for a while but now the cab company has my name memorized), working on a wide plethora of things here at Moscoso Arquitectura, and more. I’ve also learned things about myself that I never could have imagined.

For one, I know I have already mentioned that I am surprisingly not afraid of dogs anymore but now cats too. I was literally someone who used to have little panic attacks whenever a dog or cat was close and now I am searching them out to play with. There is this one grey cat that is constantly meowing and my current obsession is trying to understand why it seems so upset. My parents probably would not even recognize me if they saw.

But in terms of work, we have being doing a lot more moving around lately which has been awesome. With Javier, we’ve recently visited a few of Moscoso Arquitectura’s construction sites and the driving around has given us a chance to see so much more of Cochabamba. And on these car rides, Javier has taught us some very helpful Spanish. And for Graciela, we have been working more on our children’s stories which has allowed me to whip out my hidden drawing talents (I say this to make myself feel better when comparing my artistic talents to Jocelyn’s). But all in all it has been really cool to see the work we started four weeks ago evolving into what it is now. Also the road we’ve been taking rocks out of is exceptionally smoother than when we began! Excited about that.

Capilla Urkupiña located in Quillacollo which has given us lots of travel time. It is almost nearing completion!

While this place has become more like home I have still found myself missing California a bit more often. Just everyday stuff like the food and just general accessibility to different things are missed. Not to mention my parents. But I am doing much better on the homesickness front than I was expecting so that is still a plus!

The Cristo de la Concordia in Cochabamba that is one of Moscoso’s projects and one of the top 10 most influential religious monuments in the world!

But everything has acted as a nice distraction. Especially this weekend when we go to Salar de Uyuni! Not even joking, I’m even excited for the 12 hour bus ride…

Super random but one of the best milkshakes I have ever had. If you have the chance, always get dulce de leche milkshakes.
