Enjoy today—2 days until departure

Almost a week has passed since I finished finals, submitted final papers, and moved out of my dorm just-in-time to avoid fines. Coming back home to Los Angeles before leaving for India has given me some much-needed rest and allowed me to say some proper goodbyes to friends and family, many of which I will not get a chance to see again until winter break. Only two days left until Brooke and I board a plane for a 15-hour flight followed by a 7-hour one. I still don’t know what I am going to do for that many hours — watching all of The Godfather movies is a possibility. I feel anxious, stressed, excited, and curious all at once when thinking of where I’ll be, and what I’ll be doing this summer after spending 21 hours in a jet-propelled metal canister. Sattva Consulting sounds like an amazing company from everything I have heard and researched about them and I am sure that what I learn there will be extremely valuable. Funny enough, what I am most excited for is the possibility of taking amazing photographs. I will be taking my old film camera and look forward to capturing great sights and scenes. My anticipation, and subsequent anxiety, about leaving for India and working at Sattva this summer have reminded me of something I too often forget to do — enjoy today. I am convinced that being a planner person is ingrained in my very DNA; however, remembering to not get ahead of myself and take in the present is something that I have tried to make a bigger priority in my life. I know that upon Brooke and I’s arrival in India we will be faced with lots of uncertainty and many things outside of our control. I have accepted that. However, today, I am going to a Dodgers game with my father which has for years been one of my favorite pastimes. Today, I will be doing nothing more than shouting “Let’s go Dodgers!” and occasionally raising my hand to signal over for more peanuts or another Dodger Dog. Tomorrow will be my last day to pack and get everything in order before my departure on Thursday. India will be an experience unlike any other and with that, I also know there will be challenges. My only intention is to enjoy each day and be present. Do not allow your worry of the future to cloud your enjoyment of the present. But for now, Let’s Go Dodgers!
