Scubanomics: The Dive Industry in November 2021
Open water certification data. Instructor careers. Quality in the dive industry. Thinking outside the box.
I hope 2021 has been good to you so far (or, at least, better than 2020), and especially that you are staying healthy!
I have a handful of new topics to share with you. A handful is exactly five!
- NEW: Entry-level dive certifications so far in 2021: Q3 delivered good news, just like Q2 did. There may be light at the end of the tunnel!
- UPDATED: Survey results on the “economics” of being a dive instructor compared to a tech diving instructor.
- NEW: Part 2 of that survey with a look at dive instructors who did not renew their teaching status. Their reasons. Their profile.
- NEW: In our off-the-wall series, we brainstormed around the idea of eLearning being free in the dive industry.
- NEW: We discussed the role of standards & procedures, quality assurance, and dive instructors in keeping scuba divers alive: A Prop Gun. A Power Bar. A Dead Diver. What do they have in common?
We also launched a new series of “Scuba Proud” promotional items to help you recruit more student-divers.
Reminder: I recently published 2 reference books for dive professionals. Please have a look and give me your feedback!
Are you going to the DEMA Show this month in Las Vegas? If so, I wish you a profitable trip. Let me know how it went for you.
While we’re here… Would you do me a favor and forward this newsletter to a colleague or dive buddy, please? Let’s work together on developing and improving the dive industry!
Dive safe. Stay healthy!
Darcy
