SCU Welcomes Special Guests from the Beijing Eastern Medicine Community to Campus
Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) recently hosted an on-campus visit with administrators and faculty from Beijing Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine. Building on a meaningful relationship between the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, and SCU — the visit was initiated by UCLA and brought some of Beijing’s top clinicians in the field of Eastern Medicine to SCU’s Southern California campus.
Through his work as a visiting Associate Professor at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, Zhonglong Li (Associate Professor, Associate Chief Physician, Acupuncture and Tuina Department at Beijing Hospital’s National Center of Gerontology) grew interested in learning more about the integrative approach to patient care, specifically chiropractic care. After learning of SCU’s approach to integrative, interprofessional healthcare education — Dr. Li, decided to visit SCU’s campus along with other special guests, including: Younan Chen (Associate Professor, School of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and Tuina, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine); Luquan Chen (Associate Professor, Associate Chief Physician, Director, Acupuncture Department, Beijing Tongren Hospital); Yumin Cho (Project Scientist, David Geffen School of Medicine and Center for East West Medicine, UCLA), and Minli Sun, LAc, DAOM.
The goal of the visit was for the guests to learn about SCU’s College of Eastern Medicine (CEM), and more specifically, explore SCU’s groundbreaking Interprofessional educational model. After a meet and greet session with SCU President, Dr. Scaringe, SCU faculty, staff, and students — the guests learned about SCU’s programs through a discussion led by Jenny Yu, Dean, College of Eastern Medicine followed by a campus tour led by Eric Hsiao, Department Chair of Foundations & Principles.
