5am poetry

Arise like an early tide
Taking blue hour in stride
Before over stimulation
Before the cogs of the simulation
Begin to whir

Raindrops race on dark windows
Tired yellow street lights yawn
and begin to flicker
Clouds fall out of bed
Landing on this train and making their way
To whatever destiny has in store for them
Today
Wheels of steel whine in the fray

Hoods are up
Empty parks
Caffeine cups
Lonesome cars trundle through backstreets
Search lights in a sunless world
Electronic-passenger-information-systems
Provide direction
For the lost and disconnected
Vacated carriages
The longest commuter competition
Stockholm syndrome medals — kiss them

Revival dealers appear
Holes in the wall
Wind tunnel respite
Where the weary huddle
and blow
on their hands, invisible dice to throw
Are you queueing…
